"Amy, I learned more from you than any other class I have taken. You were so patient. I think your introvert traits make you a better teacher. You are not all about being a showman. Many instructors are showmen/actors. You are thoughtful and calm".  -Frances DiFranco

"After taking 2 classes with you I want to THANK YOU so much! I have learned so much and I honestly hate that our classes ever have to end. You are an amazing person with an awesome personality. I am looking forward to taking a few more of your classes and hope I grow into the photographer you have been encouraging me to become. You will never understand just how much you have touched my life and I can't say thank you enough!!!"  -TeSheka McCray

"I’ve taken several of Amy’s classes, both in person and online. Her enthusiasm and high energy shine and bring so much to her students. She tailors each session to the individual needs of her students, whether beginner, seasoned enthusiast, or professional. She is great at supporting each lesson with online tools and feedback. Her guidance has been invaluable in my photography learning experience." -Bridget H. Mayo

"Taking Amy Shutt’s Basics Photo Class has been a great experience. I found the format of the class to be very comfortable and helpful.

"We were always encouraged to ask questions, something I also needed. One of the things I liked best was that we were encouraged to put what we learned in class into practice by getting out and taking photos. Amy then gave us gentle critiques and suggestions to help us improve.  Interaction with other students in class was an asset too. In the classroom and on Facebook I got to see what other students were doing and learned a great deal from them as well.

" I found Amy to be an excellent teacher with a great depth of knowledge and experience in photography. As a result I see much improvement in my skill as a (budding) photographer. Perhaps even more importantly for me, she exudes a passion for her craft that is contagious, and this is exactly what I am looking for in a teacher."  -Jeff Murray

"I had such a great time at this workshop with Amy. We explored while Amy pointed us in the direction of some fabulous areas to photograph. It was so much fun thinking creatively along with the other photographers present as it really forced me to think outside the box and appreciate everyone's different take on a particular scene. I have already signed up for another workshop and can't wait to hang out with Amy again and learn from her!" -Erin Lato

"Amy does a great job of breaking down the complicated photography process into easy to understand digestible chunks that the everyday person can comprehend. It is evident that she is a subject matter expert in photography. Amy's style of teaching is personable and down-to-earth. At no point does she ever speak over your head. This is greatly appreciated by all of her students, from the novice to the seasoned photographers.

"Lastly, Amy demonstrates that she is a life-long learner of her craft and tries to instill this in her students by sharing that she is always taking classes and learning herself. Personally, I appreciate this the most. I would recommend Amy's classes to anyone who wants not only to take better pictures but also to understand why a picture is better because of composition, clarity, etc."  -Khanh Bui

"Thank you for the experience.  I feel like I made a friend, not just had a teacher!" -Sharon Polito

"These workshops are not only instructive, but super fun. One of the best things about participating in workshops with Amy is meeting other friendly photographers in the area and being inspired by others' work as well as your own. Amy helps you learn the basics of your camera, and is very helpful in pointing out and improving your composition, lighting, and camera settings. Overall, the workshops are a blast, and you learn about your camera and your photography style while hanging out with friends and enjoying beautiful scenery!"  -Paige Brown

"I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend!  It was fun being challenged around other fellow photographers & Amy's constructive criticism is beyond helpful.   If your love is photography, you would benefit from Amy's workshop!" -Reagan Savoy

Amy, as a seasoned educator of 16 years, I must say you are a natural teacher. You make your students feel successful, regardless of their level of expertise. You exhibit a "withitness" and "intuition" that can not be learned but is innate! I have very much enjoyed the Beginner Series Classes and look forward to learning more from such a passionate person and photographer. -Sandra Guilbeau on Introversion + Finding Your Element:

"I thoroughly enjoyed your DSLR Basics course.  It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, where I utilize only a small percentage of DSLR capabilities.

"I also appreciated your approach  “Let’s start shooting” rather than a tedious explanation of every dial, button, and mode on the camera.

"Finally, your approach to explaining Photoshop and editing was quite an amazing feat, considering the time limitations and infinite depth of Photoshop.  I think you effectively communicated a “You can do this” attitude without burying the poor student in the endless learning experience that is Photoshop.

"I definitely will be taking more of your courses in the future." -Dennis Demcheck

"I purchased a Cannon Rebel T3i with the intention of reading the manual and learning to operate it fully.  After reading the manual for approximately 30 minutes, I was so confused and convinced  that I might have purchased a camera that I would not be able to use properly. I thought at that time that I would probably be shooting everything on automatic.

"After feeling very frustrated, I decided to look for a camera class that would benefit me.  I am so happy that I found Amy Shutt. I am almost finished taking her 5 week Basics Photography class.  I am very happy to say that I am off of automatic. She explained aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual in a way that I could understand. I am feeling more confident in using any of these modes. I really enjoy using manual mode the most however; it makes so much more sense to me now.

"I am so excited and happy about what I have learned so far, that I have enrolled in Amy's upcoming Intermediate Photography class. She has been so patient, kind, and knowledgeable while teaching her class that I know I will enjoy learning my new hobby that much more." -Edith Rahm

"Amy Shutt’s basic class provided the encouragement and support for me to overcome my apprehensions about learning to use my DSLR camera.

"Of course, my manual for my Pentax K-7 talked about Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, etc… I was overwhelmed by it all.  Within two weeks into Amy’s class I was amazed with my understanding of these various terms and how to apply these functions to my photography.

"Amy’s approach is very relaxed and calm and not at all intimidating.  She is quite knowledgeable and allowed all of us to ask our basic questions and discuss our perceptions and understandings/misunderstandings of the various techniques.

"I am so thankful for the opportunity Amy provided me with this class. I am excited about continuing and improving upon what I have learned and I plan on enrolling in the Intermediate Photography Class in January 2014." -Karen Bueche
